Ultra HD 4K TV, tablets, and gaming PCs all connected via a single fibre… It is possible! La Fibre Paloise led the way this weekend by setting up a connected home at the Tempo shopping centre on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December.

Presenting the uses and benefits of fibre optic connectivity is now a priority for La Fibre Paloise*, which is currently completing fibre optic rollout throughout the entirety of the centre of the Pau Béarn Pyrénées Agglomeration.

In 2020, almost 100,000 households and businesses will have access to superfast internet packages from all network operators. Encouraging the public and professionals to make full use of fibre optic connectivity is now a decisive task for this public service concession.

The connected home, set up inside Pau’s Tempo shopping centre, allowed for a weekend presentation of the various uses granted by superfast connections. One benefit of fibre optic connectivity is simultaneous usage within households. Visitors, who found themselves in a full-size living room, were able to simultaneously try out 4K UHD multicasting, online PC gaming, and intensive internet use on other devices.

In 2003, when regional superfast FTTH (Fibre to the home) digital networks were first being rolled out, the Pau Béarn Pyrénées Agglomeration was the first to take the leap. Axione, then a young company, was selected to co-build infrastructure and carry out its maintenance for 15 years as part of a public service concession. Fifteen years later, upon this concession’s renewal in 2018, the agglomeration community, which counts 31 communes totalling a population of over 160,000, set a new challenge: within 14 months, the contractor was to bring the equipment up to current standards — otherwise known as “reengineering”— and create additional connections to service the entire centre of the agglomeration. Objectives have been met once again, as the infrastructure is capable of accommodating all current network operators while also already being technically prepared for future needs.
